Apex Legends: Design challenges

DESCRIPTION

I challenged myself to design and block out the following levels in a very short time, because I wanted to improve how I approach deadlines.

Each level is implemented using different tools and constrains to raise the stakes.

Levels

Arboretum | Arenas map (2 weeks)

Swamps redesign | Caustic town takeover (3 days)

Cracked Tunnel | Redesign for World’s Edge (1 week)

Slum Lakes redesign | Pathfinder town takeover (3 days)

Summary

Arboretum - Arenas map

Arboretum is a original design for an Arenas map. I spent two weeks working on it, where I designed the location and blocked it out in Unreal Engine.

The level is contained inside of a geodesic dome, home to an arboretum and a high-tech tree nursery. A pyroclastic flow has gone through the environment seriously compromising the structural integrity of the dome and covering most of the level with ashes.

Swamps redesign – Caustic town takeover

This level is a redesign of Swamps from Kings Canyon: I gave myself 12 hours to research the original layout, redesign the location and block it out in Unreal Engine using a Level Design tool made by me.

Cracked Tunnel – Redesign for World’s Edge

This level is a redesign of the tunnel between Thermal Station and The Tree from Kings Canyon. I researched the location, redesigned the location and blocked it out in Source Engine 2 using Hammer.

Slum Lakes redesign – Pathfinder town takeover

This level is a redesign of Slum Lakes from Kings Canyon: I gave myself 12 hours to research the original layout, redesign the location and block it out in Unreal Engine using BSP.
